Wireless telecommunications disruptor Norwood Systems is proud to announce it is the winner a 2014 National iAward for the company’s CORONA service platform, as well as receiving a National Merit Recognition award. The National iAwards honours companies at the cutting edge of technology innovation and have become the premier technology awards platform in Australia delivering the most comprehensive awards program which recognises the achievements and innovation made in ICT across all facets of the economy.
Most importantly, the iAwards recognises the achievements of home-grown Australian innovators.
CORONA (COrporate ROaming Network Access) is a disruptive cloud services platform that transparently reduces roaming expenses for corporate international travellers while delivering seamless connectivity to their corporate voice telecommunication networks when abroad.
The iAward was received for CORONA in the “New Product” category, which recognises an outstanding ICT product developed by an Australian organisation. The award covers the whole field of ICT (software, hardware, firmware etc) and can be from an established or start-up organisation. Since launching in January, CORONA has seen growth rates of more than 500% per month on average, with users now on six continents. CORONA received the iAward against a tough field, including products from well-known developers such as Atlassian.
CORONA also received a National Merit Recognition Award in the “Industry Domain – Industrial Category”, which recognises excellence in the application of ICT in the manufacturing, construction, transport, utility industries. The industry is experiencing a new industrial revolution with the digital economy being the overarching motivator and deliverer of change within this sector. The CORONA service delivers this significant change by providing reductions in roaming expenses by seamlessly utilising existing enterprise voice networks to intelligently route a company’s calls over both its own network and Norwood’s cloud-based network.
Norwood Systems CEO and founder, Paul Ostergaard, said that the whole Company was delighted to receive this nationally recognised honour.
“As Australian innovators, we couldn’t be more pleased to be recognised in this way. CORONA has enjoyed great success and growth since our launch early this year, and this award just tops that all off,” Mr Ostergaard said.
“From here in Australia, CORONA is looking to disrupt the $30 billion global market for overseas roaming. This award shows that Australian firms with the right product and team can compete globally in the ICT sector.”
As an Australian iAward winner, Norwood’s CORONA system will now go on to represent Australian in the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) for 2014. The Company’s core technology has been developed by Norwood Systems’ R&D team based in Perth, Australia, since early 2011 under the guidance of David Wilson, co-founder and CTO.
